Fungal nails and nail polish

One of the tips we've picked up from treating patients for fungal nails this summer can be summed up in two words - nail polish.

It's a good idea for a whole host of reasons to give yourself a break from nail polish—if only for a few days.

Nail polish can hide the fact that you have a fungal infection.

You won't be able to see that your nails are yellowing and changing if they're always covered with polish.

Give them some time to be natural, so you can watch out for the signs of infection, which include:

  • brown or yellow spots or streaks
  • your nails getting thicker in parts
  • crumbly or brittle nails
  • your nail starting to pull away from the nail bed.

And of course, if you have a fungal infection and keep reusing the same nail polish, you're reinfecting yourself each time.

And did you know, we've been collecting some great nail art pictures on our Pinterest board
