We think that keeping motivated to exercise in winter can be as simple as coming up with some new ideas.
What have you always hankered to do? Maybe now is the time!
How about variety, finding something you love, and rewards?
Variety
Now is not the time to be stale, doing the same old thing.
If you need a change, here are some heart starters:
- what have you always hankered to do—maybe now is the time
- ask your friends and family what they do and give it a try
- add some tweaks to your existing routine
- look into the great range of technology and apps
- find an exercise that you can do with your kids—martial arts, riding a bike, throwing a frisbee in the park or Parkrun
- download your favourite music
- join clubs and groups such as dancing, rock climbing, yoga or cross-country skiing
- find somewhere to walk or cycle with a coffee shop nearby for a well-earned break.
Staying motivated
And staying motivated can also mean thinking outside the box.
How about trying:
- setting goals such as training for a fun run
- rewarding yourself with treats like a night at the movies
- find the perfect picture to motivate you—such as a beach holiday or a wedding—and pin it at your desk
- find a training partner—it's easier to exercise with a buddy
- reward yourself with a personal trainer once a week or once a month—to help you push through.
- find clubs with a culture for motivating their members, such as a running or walking club or a boot camp.
Hopefully, our tips will help you avoid the pattern we see every spring—people who have injured themselves while trying to get back into exercise.
